T.K.M COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
T.K.M College of Engineering was
crystallized in form
and substance in 1956 and Dr. N. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of
Independent India, laid the foundation stone. After a short span of two years,
the college was formally inaugurated by Prof. Humayun Kabir the Hon'ble minister
for Scientific and Cultural Affairs on 3rd July 1958. This is the first grand-in-aid Engineering

The College is six kilometers away from Kollam junction and the institute is within easy reach, as a number of K.S.R.T.C as well as private buses regularly ply touching the college. The college has its own bus for transportation of local students. Direct trains connect Kollam to all important cities of the country. In memory of this a new building was constructed with modern facilities. The college started with student strength of 120 and a faculty of six offering courses in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and has the enviable reputation of being one of the premier technical institutions in the country. Sri A Thangal Kunju Musaliar was born in a middle class
family at the ancestral home of his parents in Kollam on 12th January 1897.
His family proudly traces their ancestry to Malik Ibu Deenar, a legendary
Islamic missionary who came to India in the 8th Century. The name Thangal Kunju Musaliar conjures up the memories of an era, when Kerala dominated the cashew export trade in 1940's and 50's. He was a pioneer in this field who build up a vast business empire through impeccable planning and its systematic implementation. By 1940, he had the unique distinction of being one of the world's renowned employers. In 1950, while at the peak of his business career Sri. Musaliar became preoccupied with new thoughts of how best he could provide education to the new generation for the better development of the society. As a man of extraordinary vision he foresaw the tremendous importance of education in the years to come. These thoughts have paved the way for the formation of the T.K.M Educational trust in 1956. The trust has the heritage of holding up firmly the values of late Janab Thangal Kunju Musaliar. The trust established Institutions such as T.K.M College of engineering, T.K.M College of Arts and Science and T.K.M Institute of management. Today we see the success of a visionary statesman and multifaceted personality, who full-filled his dream of uplifting the society primarily through education. |
